Ordained to Serve: The Diaconate of Bro. Dominic Pham Dinh Phu, OCD

On September 19, 2025, at 9:00 AM, the parish church of Cao Thai in Thu Duc, Ho Chi Minh City, was filled with joy and thanksgiving as Bro. Dominic Pham Dinh Phu, OCD, was ordained to the diaconate, one day after making his solemn profession of vows as a Discalced Carmelite.

The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Most Rev. Joseph Bui Cong Trac, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Saigon, who conferred the Sacred Order of the Diaconate upon Bro. Dominic. The liturgy was concelebrated by Discalced Carmelite priests from the Philippines, local clergy in Vietnam, and honored by the presence of Bro. Dominic’s own brother, an SVD priest, who came from the United States to witness and join the celebration.

The diaconate signifies a new chapter in Bro. Dominic’s journey, calling him to embrace more deeply the vocation of humble service to God’s people. Though challenges will certainly come, the mercy of God will be his enduring strength and consolation. The Order prays that the fire of his vocation may continue to burn brightly, sustaining him in faith and impelling him to serve with wholehearted charity.

A special word of thanks was expressed to the family and relatives of Bro. Dominic, especially those who traveled from abroad to be present for this milestone. Gratitude was particularly offered to his beloved parents for generously giving their son to the Discalced Carmelite Order and to the Church. Trusting in the Lord’s promise, the Order affirmed that God will abundantly bless their family for their sacrifice and generosity. Their presence at the ordination stood as a testimony of love and faith, a source of joy shared by the whole community.
